Being spiritually Responsible has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with taking a measure of responsibility for what is happening in your life. This includes the good and the not so good. It has to do with acknowledging that you are not always a victim of fate, or an absent God who at times seems not to hear you, or a whimsical universe determined to teach you a lesson.
Living a spiritually responsible life means that you accept your role as a co-creator of happiness, good relationships, and a future you can look forward to. It means recognizing that you can be creative even when you feel stuck, and quite powerful even when you feel afraid. Now that you know some of what it means, you need to know that the first step in becoming a spiritually responsible person is to take ownership for your experiences.
You are the source of many of your experiences. Your thoughts and personal beliefs help create them. In fact, you can manipulate your reality to prove that your personal beliefs are true. Most people would agree that if you wake up for work and declare it’s going to be a bad or stressful day, it generally is. Your thoughts certainly contribute to your quality of life. But what about those personal beliefs, like I’m not worthy, I’m not lovable, I’m not important? Those beliefs will cause you to feel under appreciated, or perhaps taken advantage of. This is probably not the world you want to create for yourself.
Do you know that when you tell yourself these things, that you paste an energetic sign on your forehead that says, I’m not lovable? And do you realize that this energetic sign will manipulate your future? It's this simple: When you act like a doormat you are inviting others to wipe their feet on you.
Worse, your thoughts will attract the perfect people to “prove” your reality. For example, if you believe the world is an angry and hostile place, you will attract people who are angry and hostile. If you believe you can’t trust people, you will attract people who can’t be trusted, or who will betray you. And if you believe you are not loveable, you will attract people who treat you poorly. It is a simple law of magnetics. Your thoughts will manipulate your world. I’m saying that you will create the evidence to support your view of life. I think you would agree that would make you a rather powerful being.
Do I expect you to walk around and think positive thoughts—that you don’t really believe—and your world will suddenly change for the better? No. That would be a waste of your time and energy. But there are some simple steps that can begin to change your reality.
First, you can choose to focus on positive thoughts that you do believe. Don’t spend so much time and energy on what’s wrong in your life; find what is right with your life. Does your hair look good today? Are you happy for a friend? If you were your own boss, would you be excited by the work you are doing? Each day find a positive thought and then send out an prayer, intention, or energetic message of gratitude.
Second, get out of your future and into your present. Instead of always worrying about what can go wrong, or why something this simple can’t work, look at what has gone right in this moment. You have taken the first step in becoming spiritually aware. You are now considering the possibility that you are more powerful than you once believed. You are moving toward taking a risk and trying something new by making a choice to take responsibility for your life. And soon you will be willing to choose a way of life that promotes happiness and health. Wow. You are having quite a day!
Third, celebrate one thing about your life each week. Pick a celebration day and honor yourself with flowers, a special meal, watch that movie you’ve been meaning to see, or simply beam with pleasure. You can celebrate almost anything like choosing to speak up for yourself, getting out of bed and facing the day even when you are scared, not taking yourself too seriously, finishing a project a work, letting your mate know how you feel, having a moment of authenticity in a relationship, or perhaps simply finding some humor in a tough situation.
Remember that inspiration must work its way down through your chakra system to become a reality. When Michelangelo looked at a lump of marble and imagined the Pieta, his inspiration was in the seventh or crown chakra. He then had to think about and consider his creation, and listen to his intuition. His inspiration was now in his sixth chakra. Did it seem like a good idea? Apparently, it did. Next, his inspiration moved to his fifth or throat chakra, where he had to make a choice to reshape the marble and begin his new creation. Or not.
You have now received your inspiration for creating a better life; it is in your crown chakra. As you consider, think about or receive intuitive guidance that these steps will change your life your inspiration will move to your sixth chakra. Soon, like Michelangelo, you must make a choice because your inspiration will hover in your fifth chakra. With a few small, yet doable steps, your life can be sculpted into a wonderful creation.
It’s your decision. What would you like your creation to look like?
